The Volkswagen ID.3 is a compact 100% electric, the C-segment, manufactured by Volkswagen from 2019 (you can continue reading the information from the presentation of the Volkswagen ID.3). The Volkswagen ID.3 is characterized by having a wide electric range of between 330 and 550 kilometers (according to versions), and new modular platform MEB of the Volkswagen Group, in which the group automobile German has invested 6,000 million euros. If the Beetle was “the people’s car”, the ID.3 wants to be the “electric town”, since the price of the automobile ID.3 would in 29.990 euros in Germany. It is, therefore, the release more important to the manufacturer in a long time, with which Volkswagen wants us to move on to the electrical mass. It is manufactured at the Volkswagen plant in Zwickau (Germany).
Among the electric cars that aim to rival the Volkswagen ID.3 we find with other compact in its class, including the Hyundai Ioniq, electric, the MINI Electric, the Nissan LEAF, the SEAT the-Born, or the Toyota Prius EV.
Exterior design of the Volkswagen ID.3
The Volkswagen ID.3 is a compact car, with a size of 4,26 meters, slightly less than a Volkswagen Golf. In it, the brand has defined an identity, very marked, a futuristic design, with the goal of creating a “family ID.” of dedicated electrical, beyond electric versions of other products that also offer internal combustion engine, as was the case with the Volkswagen e-Golf.
The front stands out because of the lack of calender and by employing a few headlights with Matrix technology LED optional. According to Volkswagen, with the optional system of opening and closing without a key “Keyless Advanced”, the headlights Matrix LED light up as if you were winking the eye, “making the ID.3 it seems almost human”.
It also has slats of active cooling, used to cool demand the propeller group and achieve a good aerodynamic coefficient. The fall of the roof is very steep and it highlights a few records in the pillar C. The body is color duotone: the tailgate is painted in black, like the roof, which is topped by a spoiler. The rear light clusters with LED technology offer a narrow design, and horizontal.
Interior design of the Volkswagen ID.3
The Volkswagen ID.3 enjoys an interior quite spacious for five people, thanks to the architecture of the platform MEB, the distribution of the batteries in the base and the absence of a centre tunnel. Its trunk, of 385 litres, is similar to that of the Volkswagen Golf 7 (380 liters).
The design of the interior of the Volkswagen ID.3 is completely new bill. We speak of an interior with dashboard and digital dashboard is dominated by a central screen of 10 inches, gestural control and voice control intuitive that you can invoke by saying “Hello ID!”. On the inside, just find a few buttons.
The selector of the change has not been located among the occupants of the seats front, but has been located to the right of the instrument cluster. In addition, it also features a Head-Up Display that projects information onto the glass, with functions of augmented reality, which help us for example to correctly follow the directions of the navigator.
The Volkswagen ID.3 is always connected to the internet thanks to a network 5G integrated, which allows you to make updates without the need for cables and provide a host of functions connected to the internet, in the style of Tesla.
During our first impressions of the Volkswagen ID.3, we have been able to testify that the finishes and quality of materials seem to be of models of the bottom segment (B) and that, despite its futuristic design, it seems to be worse finish than a Volkswagen Golf.
Range of Volkswagen ID.3
The Volkswagen ID.3 has an electric motor of 201 HP and 310 Nm of torque, located in the rear axle. We know that it is rear wheel drive but its capabilities are, for the moment, unknown.
In the future it is expected the arrival of a version of access with lower power, probably closer to 120 HP.
The range currently consists of three versions, depending on the capacity of the battery, which give different ranges of autonomy:
The version of access, with a battery of 45 kWh that gives a maximum autonomy of 330 kilometres. The mid version offers a battery of 58 kWh and 420 km maximum autonomy. The version top includes a battery of 77 kWh and has a maximum autonomy of 550 kilometers, according to cycle WLTP. The battery of the vehicle ID.3 is guaranteed for eight years or 160.000 km
The Volkswagen ID.3 is compatible with a protocol of fast charging of 125 kW of power, using the network Ionity trans. For home charging, it offers a wallbox home, between 7 and 11 kW of power. In this case the recharge of 80% of the battery will take about six or eight hours.
