Agencies- Hundreds of tractors of trucks -700 according to the carriers, and about 500 according to the Urban Guard, have gone from 08.00 hours and up to 15 hours of this Monday through the streets of Barcelona to demand improvements in working conditions.
The independent carrier in the port of Barcelona, on strike since Monday of last week, have decided to take their protests to the centre of Barcelona, and in the early hours of this morning have come in slow march from the port facilities on a circular route that is being guarded by patrols of the Guardia Urbana.
Carriers, convened by the association Sintraport, demanding improvements in working conditions and protesting the long wait times that you have to wait in terminals and in warehouses to load and unload your truck, by the precarious situation that lives the sector and by the poor general condition of the containers transported.
After leaving port, in groups of 50 tractors, have been circulated by the paseo Colon, Via Laietana, the street Aragon, and Tarragona, the plaza España and the avenida Parallel, before the end back into the Port. Truck drivers are self-employed they touch the horns of their vehicles and some of them carry banners with slogans to protest.
The traffic problems have come to the ronda del Litoral and Zona Franca, after all the tour of the city where there have been other points of contention as the street Aragon and the Parallel.
The president of the Sintraport, Vicente Rodríguez, has explained to Efe that when the march arrives back to the Port convened an assembly to decide the steps to follow from now on in their protest, and not discarded to keep the strike.
